Biosphere Reserves and the IPBES

The International science-policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) is an independent intergovernmental body set up to assist governments and their citizens to better understand the planet's biodiversity, its ecosystems and the essential services they provide to society. It is intended to become the leading intergovernmental body for assessing biodiversity and ecosystem services. The purpose of sharing information under this theme is to utilize the experience of biosphere reserves to contribute to knowledge generation, capacity building, assessments of biodiversity and ecosystem services, and policy formulation- the four main functions of IPBES, and to utilize knowledge generated by IPBES to improve management of biosphere reserves.
