One-day presidential conference on America's Great Outdoors initiative plots local-level preservation efforts

President Obama signed a presidential memorandum launching the America’s Great Outdoors Initiative at a White House conference last Friday. The National Park Service was an active participant, with Director Jarvis moderating one of the afternoon breakout sessions.

The initiative will focus on promoting community-level efforts to conserve outdoor spaces. As part of the initiative, members of the administration will host regional sessions with groups and individuals across the country to discuss ideas on how to protect America’s natural landscape and form a 21st century strategy conservation agenda.

The following is taken from the White House blog on the conference – for more information, please see the links at the bottom of the page, which will take you to the White House and DOI sites and to a video of the President at the conference shot by Harpers Ferry Center.
