Canada: 400,000 students to receive free admission to NPs, NHSs for a year

OTTAWA — Grade 8 students will have free access to Canada's national parks and historic sites until next spring, Environment Minister Jim Prentice has announced.

The My Parks Pass program, also sponsored by Nature Canada and The Historica-Dominion Institute, will start May 17 and provide free access to 400,000 students in Canada.

Grade 8 students (secondary two students in Quebec) this year will qualify for the pass that will be active until next May.

The program forgoes entry fees for the students to 27 national parks — like Banff, St. Lawrence Islands, and Point Pelee — and 68 national historic sites, including HMCS Haida in Hamilton, Queenston Heights near Niagara Falls, and Riel House in Winnipeg, among others.
