Enviros, tribe sue to stop delisting of Yellowstone NP-area grizzlies; another suit in works

Environmental groups and a Native American tribe have filed lawsuits over the federal government’s decision to lift Endangered Species Act protections from the Yellowstone area grizzly bears.

Three lawsuits were filed against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service in U.S. District Court this week in an attempt to overturn the agency’s decision earlier this summer to declare the Yellowstone grizzly bears no longer threatened and to cede management of the bears to the states of Idaho, Wyoming and Montana. Another lawsuit will be filed next week.
