NY legislators make bipartisan push for NHS feasibility study for Fort Ontario

OSWEGO — Bipartisanship can be a dirty word in Washington, but one of New York's U.S. senators and a Syracuse-area congressman are engaged in a legislative effort that could result in Fort Ontario being established as a national park. 

U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and U.S. Rep. John Katko visited the Safe Haven Holocaust Refugee Shelter Museum Thursday. The lawmakers have introduced legislation that would initiate a study to determine whether the fort, which was used as a military installation dating back to the French and Indian War, should receive national park status.
