Judge OKs removal of Lee statue in Dallas

The City of Dallas can proceed again in taking down a statue of Gen. Robert E. Lee from a public park, a day after a federal judge halted the removal at the last minute.

Workers were moments away on Wednesday from using a crane to lift the Confederate monument out of Robert E. Lee Park, a prominent green space in the center of the city, when the judge granted a temporary restraining order to stop it. But at a hearing on Thursday, Judge Sidney Fitzwater of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas dismissed the lawsuit, which was brought by a Dallas resident and the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
