Malta: Nature Trust welcomes recent Natura 2000 MPA declarations
Nature Trust (Malta) has welcomed the declaration on the Natura 2000 marine protected areas (MPAs) announced recently by the Parliamentary Secretary for Tourism, the Environment and Culture Mario de Marco.
The environment NGO has been lobbying for the declaration of MPAs in Malta since 1986. In the last few years, it has been lobbying at EU level along with its partners World Wildlife Fund (WWF) European Policy Office.
Nature Trust now hopes that such designated sites are supported by much needed law enforcement, which is also lacking on the terrestrial Natura 2000 sites.
