Canada: Nature Conservancy creates 2 new reserves in Cooking Lake Moraine natural area
EDMONTON — Two stepping-stone properties in the Cooking Lake Moraine natural area have been protected by the Nature Conservancy of Canada.
The conservation organization was able to protect two properties linking Elk Island National Park, Ministik Wildlife Sanctuary and Miquelon Lake Provincial Park east of Edmonton. The 128-hectare Kallal property and the 60-hectare Hicks property were conserved with the help of the federal government’s Natural Areas Conservation Program and with the support of TransCanada Corporation, the organization announced Monday. The two properties are made up of aspen stands, shrub lands, wetlands, and naturalized meadows.
