Cuba: Over 250 PAs identified in national surveys
Cuba has 253 protected areas identified, whose aim is to achieve an efficient conservation of nature and the associated values and historic cultural resources.
Although most have local significance, 91 reach national category level, among these are the Pico Cristal National Park in the province of Holguin, first to be adopted on April 12, 1930, Maritza Garcia, director of the Center Protected Areas, informed the Cuban News Agency.
Pico Cristal is one of the richest regions for flora of the Cuban archipelago, with more than 445 endemic species and plant coverage consisting of original pine, holm oak and evergreen forests.
