GWS presents display on diversity/relevancy programs at national parks summit
The Society presented a display on our diversity and relevancy programs at the recently completed America's Summit on National Parks. The 2-day meeting, held in late January in Washington, D.C., focused on the National Park Service's Call to Action. "The 2016 Centennial of the National Park Service is fast approaching," declared the summit organizers, which "provides the national parks community with an opportunity to draw attention to the needs and opportunities of the park system and inspire the American public to become engaged on behalf of our nearly 400 national park units and park programs ranging from Yosemite National Park to the Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program."
A highly diverse group of 400 people participated. GWS Vice President Molly N. Ross represented us at the summit and presented the display at one of the meeting's poster sessions. The display consisted of two posters highlighting GWS's George Melendez Wright Student Travel Scholarship, our Native Participant Travel Grant Program, and Park Break.
