Colorado's Browns Canyon, scenic stretch of Arkansas River, being pushed for NMon status
The Arkansas River flows nearly 1,500 miles from its headwaters in the Sawatch Mountains, near Leadville, to its confluence with the Mississippi River at Napoleon, Ark.
South of Buena Vista but north of Salida it lingers, courses and plunges through Browns Canyon, dropping 360 feet in 10 miles.
The area referred to as Browns Canyon is strikingly beautiful and for the last 18 years has been protected as a wilderness study area.
