Surveys show good voluntary compliance with new MPAs along central California coast

MONTEREY - Most Central Coast residents and visitors are following rules aimed at a protecting marine habitat, according to a volunteer monitoring program.

The Otter Project-sponsored Marine Protected Areas Watch has collected 2,000 reports from about 200 volunteers, surveying the coast from Año Nuevo to San Luis Obispo during the past 15 months and documenting a range of activities from surfing and swimming to fishing and scuba diving.
