Comanche leaders call for heritage designation around Texas site

Comanches once again are scouting Waco, but this time it’s heritage they’re seeking, not battles, trade or treaties.

Jimmy Arterberry, tribal preservation officer for the Lawton, Okla.-based Comanche Nation, was in Waco last week to scope out landmarks thought to be associated with the fierce equestrian tribe known as the “Lords of the Plains” before its exile from Texas in the 1850s.
