Park Break Perspectives debuts

(February 3, 2010) — Today the GWS launched Park Break Perspectives, a new series of papers that offer fresh looks at perennial and emerging issues through the eyes of up-and-coming scholars. Park Break Perspectives puts the spotlight on research papers and essays written by graduate students participating in the Society's Park Break alternative spring break program.  The papers were developed in consultation with faculty members, park scientists, and other park professionals.

The series kicks off with "Positivism to post-positivism in conservation: A call for a philosophical paradigm shift," by Tinelle D. Bustam, Emily Schadler, Heather White, and Brandon Pope.  The authors challenge park managers and scientists to better address the role of the social sciences in biophysical realms.  All Park Break Perspectives papers are published in PDF format and can be downloaded at http://www.georgewright.org/perspectives.

Other papers from the first two rounds of Park Break (2008 and 2009) will be posted soon.  We encourage all GWS members to check out the series as it grows.  Park Break Perspectives brings you the thinking of the next generation of park leaders.
